Fernando Monteiro

FernandoI was diagnosed in 1990 and ever since have been involved with community activism, first in Portugal then in the UK. I currently work as Peer Support Volunteer at the Kobler Clinic and a Volunteer Welfare Advisor with Positively UK.

Part of my work is advocating on behalf of people living with HIV and trying to manoeuvre the very punitive and ever so restrictive welfare system. Although HIV is a big chunk of my life, it doesn’t define me.

I’m also a seasoned filmmaker, being creative is equally important to me. Like in art, when we stand out and proud, we can achieve greatness.
