Post by: UK CAB Moderator on May 8 2015, 11:12 am
Please circulate widely.
I am the community rep on the POPPY study:
We need your help in recruiting black African HIV negative controls for the study sites in London. The controls must be based relatively close to one of the POPPY sites that still need to recruit controls. The sites are: Homerton Hospital, Kings College Hospital, St. Marys and Mortimer Market Centre.

The recruitment criteria for the controls is:
•   Documented negative HIV test in past 6 months or documented at screening
•   Age >50 years at study entry
•   Self defined white or black African ethnicity

We therefore need your help to act as a comparison to people of a similar profile as yourself who do not have HIV infection.
No medication is involved.
You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire.
You will undergo testing of mobility and brain function.
You will undergo a bone scan to look for osteoporosis (bone mass).
You will be tested for HIV, viral hepatitis and several medical conditions.
A blood and urine sample will be obtained and stored for research.

The sites contact details are:
Kings College Hospital:   Contact: Selin Yurdakul or Sara Okumu, Tel: 0207 848 5776,
Homerton Hospital:   Tel: 0207 594 3413
St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington:   Tel: 0203 312 1466,,
Mortimer Market Centre:   Tel: 0207 679 6709,

We hope, as the community you can recommend someone you know who would like to join the study.
