Title: Three year PrEP trial in Wales - despite earlier advice from AWMSG
Post by: Jo Josh on April 29 2017, 09:00 am
28 April:  Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has announced an all-Wales study to provide the drug TruvadaŽ to all those who would benefit from the preventative treatment.
The announcement follows the decision on TruvadaŽ by the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group on 26 April. The study will run for at least three years and will begin this summer.

...so are they going to duplicate the NHS England study? Do we really need parallel similar studies in England and Wales? Are there special circumstances in Wales that might make the outcome of the trial different...?

Or is this a way of providing PrEP but without explicitly saying they will provide PrEP?

Confused of Northallerton (again!)

It effectively makes PrEP available to anyone who wants it - check the report online but it is a "trial".  It is encouraging that the Welsh health minister has gone ahead with this counter to the advice of the AWMSG, and that he endorses the effectiveness of PrEP.

But yes, it is side stepping the issue, isn't it?
