How do people feel about pharma companies producing general information for patients?

While most of them do this to some degree, I rarely find it provides anything that is comparable or better than community-produced resources, and there is always going to be a problem with conflict of interest.

I cannot think of a time when I have ever recommended pharma-generated resources to HIV-positive people.

Also, how do you feel about a website that has the following 'terms and conditions'? Note that theser are too long to fit into the 10,000 character limit for CAB posts!

Terms and Conditions
Acceptance of Agreement. Your access to and use of this web site and related e‑mails (the "Site") is subject to the following terms and conditions and all applicable laws. Simon - er... thanks for the lengthy quote! Point nicely made though, and my own preference (formerly at Brighton, currently at King's) is for peer-reviewed community-produced materials. These have two big advantages: they are free from conflict of commercial interest, and they are produced by - or in the very closest co-operation with - people with HIV who have 'lived experience' of the topics they discuss.

The main point in favour of this BMS website is that it is easy to navigate, looks clear and visually 'clean'. But as you say, Simon, that is not enough. So while this site does set an example of web production that we could well aspire to, I would find it difficult to recommend.

The information given is reasonably good and very general...but (unless I missed it somewhere) doesn't actually tell you anything about how the success of the treatment is monitored and measured - getting down viral load to non detectable, increasing CD4 and monitoring for any adverse side effects on liver, kidneys, cardiovascular and so forth. Perhaps this was felt to be too complex...
