Free TB Awareness seminars for third sector leaders
Posted on: September 28 2010, 03:29 pm

TB Alert is inviting Directors and senior members of programme staff, to a FREE seminar to find out about a new programme of training, materials and support available to your organisation to raise awareness of TB among people living with HIV (PLHIV).

There is a close association between HIV and TB, which means people living with HIV are at an increased risk of contracting TB; 6-7% of all TB cases are TB-HIV coinfection. TB is harder to diagnose in HIV positive people, it progresses faster and it is more likely to be fatal if undiagnosed or left untreated. With over 9000 new TB cases a year – more than there are of HIV – this is an increasingly urgent issue.

Organisations delivering support to PLHIV are well placed to reach them with TB awareness messages – they are known and trusted by the communities they serve. This is one reason why the third sector was identified in the Department of Health’s (DH) TB Action as key partners of Primary Care Trusts and local government to deliver local TB awareness programmes to the most vulnerable groups.

Now, you are invited to a FREE seminar to find out what materials, training and support are available for your organisation to become involved in local TB awareness work, under The Truth About TB programme. The programme has been developed by TB Alert as the DH’s lead partner in delivering TB awareness.
