The following statistics were released today by the Department of Health:

GUMAMM for month ending 30th November 2010.

This data shows the number of first attendances to a GUM clinic for each clinic provider, how many of these attendances were offered an appointment within 48 hours and how many were seen within 48 hours. Main findings are:

    * The percentage of 1st appointments offered within 48 hours was 99.33% for November 2010, it was 99.36% for October 2010.

    * The percentage of 1st attendances seen within 48 hours as a proportion of the total number of 1st attendances was 88.63% for November 2010, it was 87.72% for October 2010.

    * The total number of 1st attendances was 121,458 in November 2010 which is 5,521 per working day, it was 5,623 per working day in October 2010.

    * The total number of attendances was 173,088 in November 2010 which is 7,868 per working day, it was 8,018 per working day in October 2010.

    * The collection covers 142 NHS providers & 2 Independent Sector providers that are responsible for 203 GUM clinics providing type 3 services.

The Department has not undertaken any specific modelling to estimate the annual cost of providing genito-urinary medical services.

In 2009-10 it is estimated that England-level gross expenditure on genito-urinary medical services was 4.63 billion. The following table provides an estimated breakdown of this expenditure.

Sexually transmitted infections    0.29
Problems of genito-urinary system (other)    1.61
Total    4.63

Additionally, the estimated expenditure on HIV and AIDS in 2009-10 was 0.76 billion.

    * The total number of 1st attendances was 95,615 in December 2010 which is 4,553 per working day, it was 5,521 per working day in November 2010.

    * The total number of attendances was 137,115 in December 2010 which is 6,529 per working day, it was 7,868 per working day in November 2010.

    * The collection covers 142 NHS providers & 2 Independent Sector providers that are responsible for 203 GUM clinics providing type 3 services.

Thanks for these stats...the figures seem quite good. I remember not that long ago being told that the first available GUM appointment was in 2 weeks! Things have improved immensely since then, driven by central diktat, I guess...

This data shows the number of first attendances to a GUM clinic for each clinic provider, how many of these attendances were offered an appointment within 48 hours and how many were seen within 48 hours. Main findings are:

The percentage of 1st appointments offered within 48 hours was 99.86% for February 2011, it was 99.88% for January 2011.

The percentage of 1st attendances seen within 48 hours as a proportion of the total number of 1st attendances was 87.32% for February  2011, it was 88.82% for January 2011.

The total number of 1st attendances was 122,483 in February 2011 which is 6,124 per working day, it was 6,200 per working day in January  2011.

The total number of attendances was 170,925 in February 2011 which is 8,546 per working day, it was 8,439 per working day in January  2011.

The collection covers 142 NHS providers & 2 Independent Sector providers that are responsible for 205 GUM clinics providing type 3  services.

    The percentage of 1st attendances seen within 48 hours as a proportion of the total number of 1st attendances was 87.82% for March 2011, it was 87.32% for February 2011.

    The total number of 1st attendances was 136,250 in March 2011 which is 5,924 per working day, it was 6,124 per working day in February 2011.

    The total number of attendances was 193,580 in March 2011 which is 8,417 per working day, it was 8,546 per working day in February 2011.

    The collection covers 142 NHS providers and two Independent Sector providers that are responsible for 208 GUM clinics providing type 3 services.
