Help NAT challenge the Welfare Reform Bill by joining the HIV Activists Network
Posted on: March 29 2011, 01:58 pm

The recent TUC march in London showed there is widespread opposition to Government cuts. Many different communities including people living with HIV and the HIV sector are being affected, and itís often the most vulnerable that are paying the price.

Our community faces many challenges today. Urgent issues include how the Welfare Reform Bill will affect people living with HIV and how we can help to protect funding earmarked for HIV support.

The HIV Activists Network has been set up to give people living with HIV a louder voice on issues such as these and provides the tools to take direct action. Everyone is invited to join, whether you are personally affected by HIV or simply feel strongly about these issues.  The only requirement is the desire to be active and make a difference.

Members of the network will be provided with campaigning points or Ďasksí that  they can take action on , for example, challenging Head Teachers to provide better education of HIV in schools or writing to  their PCT about HIV prevention and testing.  NAT provides the background information on these issues, as well as the key contacts and suggested actions.

The network is also run in partnership with Positively UK and the Stigma Index, and we are also keen to get as much feedback as possible from our network members to help shape future 'asks'.

If you are interesting in joining the HIV Activists Network or simply want to find out more, you can email HIVactivist@nat.org.uk  call: 020 7814 6767 mob:07506 302678 or go to http://www.nat.org.uk/Living-with-HIV/HIV-activists.aspx
