LTCAS/ABPI seminar Wednesday 12 September 2012, Edinburgh
Posted on: August 6 2012, 08:52 am

LTCAS are delighted to announce that we are working in partnership with the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) to develop a series of joint seminars around areas of mutual interest. The first of these will be held in the ABPI Scotland offices at Crichton House, 4 Crichton's Close, Edinburgh EH8 8DT  on Wednesday 12 September from 11am – 2pm and will include a networking lunch.

The first seminar will focus on access to new medicines and a new medicines pricing scheme called value based pricing and an insight into the work programme of the Scottish Parliament Health and Sport committee. The ABPI believes that something as important as determining how medicines should be valued and priced, should have a strong input from organisations representing people with long term conditions.  ABPI Chief Executive Stephen Whitehead was quoted recently saying, “Every patient group should legitimately be asking the government what value based pricing will do in terms of improving access to new medicines and R&D into rarer diseases."
For more background on value based pricing, please read the ABPI briefing here.

The topics and confirmed speakers for 12 September are:

•   Planned introduction in 2014 of a new medicines pricing scheme – some background and potential implications for people in Scotland, Dr Paul Catchpole, Value and Access Director, ABPI
•   An update on the work of the Scottish Parliament Health and Sport Committee ( including their work on access to new medicines), Dr Richard Simpson, MSP
•   Discussion and Q&A

The purpose of the series of joint seminars is threefold:

•   information sharing;  exploring respective policy positions, including the perspective of people with long term conditions and the organisations that represent them to ensure shared understanding of the issues
•   to identify if any of our actions or engagement can be shared
•   further developing working relationships and networking.

These seminars will be free to LTCAS members and associates. Organisations may send a member of staff, volunteer or person living with long term conditions/ unpaid carer. Travel expenses will be available to individuals living with long term conditions and unpaid carers.

Please book your place for 12 September as soon as possible if you wish to attend as space is limited. To reserve a place, please email Fiona Grierson at ABPI Scotland at fgrierson@abpi.org.uk  or call 0131 523 0490 stating any access or dietary requirements.

Please note that Fiona is on annual leave until Monday 13 August, so if you would like to register your interest in the meantime, please contact me directly.
