Across the country opportunities are available for people who work with disabled people in their profession or as a volunteer, or who are disabled themselves, to work with judges in ensuring the right decisions are made in benefits appeals cases involving disability.

From 29 October 2012, there are vacancies for approximately 300 Fee-Paid Disability Member roles to sit as judicial office holders in the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber. This will involve working on a panel, with a judge and a medically qualified member, to analyse the evidence and reach a decision on the effects of disability and entitlement to benefits.

You will be needed for a minimum of 15 days per year at the tribunal, with the option for significantly more work, and will be paid £192 per day.

This is a great opportunity for people living with or knowledgeable about HIV  to get involved directly and improve the situation of people living with HIV who need access to benefits.
