Consultation on service specifications and clinical policies
Posted on: December 13 2012, 07:17 am

The following is a cut and paste job from The NHS Commissioning Board web site...

A range of service specifications and clinical commissioning policies for specialised services commissioning have been developed by Clinical Reference Groups (CRGs).

The service specifications and clinical commissioning policies are important in clearly defining what the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) expects to be in place for providers to offer evidence-based, safe and effective services. They have been developed by specialised clinicians, expert patients and public health representatives to describe core and developmental service standards. Core standards are those that any reasonable provider of safe and effective services should be able to demonstrate, with developmental standards being those that really stretch services over time to provide excellence in the field.

Through the CRG process, there has already been extensive engagement on these new national specifications and policies. This approach has helped to ensure that the views of key stakeholders have informed and influenced the policies and specifications.

We now want to test them further with more stakeholders to ensure that there are safe and effective services in place from 1 April 2013.

The consultation will run from 12 December 2012 until 18 January 2013.

Thank Paul for this.

There are two service specifications relevant to HIV:
B6a HIV Treatment & Care: Adult:

B6b HIV Treatment & Care: Paediatric

These can also be found on the main consultation page under area B - cancer and blood:

Thanks, Mem

Thanks Paul and Mem for this. We've been told that this consultation is important in terms of maintaining standards in HIV as far as we can because the National Commissioners will be monitoring to see not only what comments are sent in by patients and carers but also how many comments are sent in. Putting it bluntly, there's a real possibility that too few comments may be perceived as evidence of little public interest in HIV.

So - please do respond to this if you can!
