Healthwatch Communities Involved- training opportunity
Posted on: March 4 2013, 04:35 pm

An initiative has come to our attention led by National Voices and three other national networks, aiming to support local organisations to get more involved in their local Healthwatch bodies as they get up and running.  Healthwatch should be a key voice for service users at the local level on health and social care.

Go to this website http://healthwatch-ci.co.uk/  where you will find more information.  You can register an interest in HealthWatch which will mean your local Healthwatch will know of your interest and hopefully involve you.  There are also regional meetings and training events on how to engage with Healthwatch in your area.  Dates and more information are on the website.

This is an update on the project by four charity networks -- CSV, NAVCA, Regional Voices and National Voices -- to promote local involvement in health and social care, and encourage local people, community groups and volunteers to have a greater say on how these services are run: see link here about the project:

Over 400 people have signed up via the website since the launch on 4 February to become local advocates and more are signing up each week.

We encourage members to draw on the H-CI resources to help people in your local support structures sign up and get involved.

The project kicked off with a National Voices event for national voluntary organisations to learn more about Healthwatch and the changing nature of local involvement.

A write-up of the very crunchy, realistic but positive exploration of why and how Healthwatch and the VCS can work together is available from Don: don.redding@nationalvoices.org.uk and will soon be on the H-CI website: http://healthwatch-ci.co.uk/

Regional Voices is now mounting events around the country for the voluntary sector to find out more. Please steer your local advocates/representatives to them. See a list of these here.

NAVCA will then deliver a number of skills development sessions in April to support those who would like to take part in health and social care but have little or no experience:

Please continue disseminating news and resources from this project to your local/regional supporters.
