Success on HIV Therapy Means Normal Mortality Risk

Article in Poz magazine: Success on HIV Therapy Means Normal Mortality Risk. Mind you, 'success' in this case seems to depend on achieving and maintaining CD4 500+ with undetectable VL.

Article is here http://www.poz.com/articles/mortality_risk_761_24048.shtml

It is important to note the majority of the sample here are in the US. An analysis by the ART-CC group compared death in Europe and the US in several cohorts (see here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23148105), finding Americans do worse and that this "may be because of the inclusion of more socially marginalized patients with higher mortality risk." As the Aidsmap report comments much of the excess mortality would have been avoided with "timely diagnosis of HIV and initiation of ART."

To be clear, this means that fewer "socially marginalised" people in the UK/Europe were included?

No, it means access to health care, welfare and social services in the US is poorer than in Europe
