Bone marrow transplant ‘frees patients of ARVs
Posted on: July 4 2013, 07:10 am

Not  new  but  good to read UKCAB team

Two patients have been taken off their HIV drugs after bone-marrow transplants seemed to clear the virus from their bodies, doctors report.
One of the patients has spent nearly four months without taking medication with no sign of the virus returning.
details can be found at

No, it's not new but it is news, in a sense, and it's great, isn't it?

Details of the two cases are in this HTB report:
http://i-base.info/htb/21765

Both were reported in detail last year at IAS in Washington. The big difference this year is that they have both recently stopped treatment (less than four months ago) - no evidence of viral rebound can be found using very sensitive tests.

This year also included results from even more intense sampling, including in lymph gut tissue for one of the patients.

Unfortunately neither the webcast nor the powerpoint slides are posted online yet.
