MP proposes bill on patient data...
Posted on: December 4 2013, 02:40 pm

Conservative MP George Freeman has proposed a bill on patient data, under the ten minute rule motion.
He presented his Electronic Patient Records (Continuity of Care) Bill to the Commons on 26 November 2013.
Mr Freeman wants to clarify some concerns in the current rules around patient data in medical research, which he hopes would advance the new diagnostics and treatments for UK patients.
The bill aims to clear up details around who owns patient data, where patients can find and access their medical records, and how can they find out what medical information their GP, the NHS and the government are holding on them.
Other issues included in the bill are how people can research and understand family medical histories, and opt in or out of their clinical records being used in anonymised NHS research.
