HIV Research for Prevention (R4P) conference

February 25, 2014

Dear Advocates,

This week, the HIV Research for Prevention (R4P) conference launched its website, www.hivr4p.org, which features information registration, scholarships, abstract submission and more. This first HIV R4P will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa, 28-31 October 2014, and is expected to occur every two years going forward. Satellite sessions, including a pre-conference advocates’ satellite meeting, will be held on Monday, 27 October. More information about these sessions will be available at the HIV R4P website, at www.avac.org/hivr4p and via this Advocates’ Network — so stay tuned!

HIV R4P is the first global conference to cover all forms of biomedical HIV prevention, including AIDS vaccines, microbicides, PrEP, treatment as prevention and other approaches. It replaces the microbicide- and vaccine-specific conferences that have taken place in the past, and has been designed to provide a unified forum for addressing both intervention-specific and cross-cutting issues.

AVAC is committed to ensuring robust civil society input and participation in this conference, and we are eager to work with partners on content for abstracts, sessions and content-specific side meetings. If you have ideas or projects you would like to collaborate on, please email us at avac@avac.org.

Also, this is a reminder that we are launching Research & Reality, a year-long dialogue about prevention research and advocacy that will take place via teleconference and webinar this Wednesday, February 26 at 10am Eastern (visit timeanddate.com for the time in your area). Click here to register for this first call: What to expect in 2014—where should prevention advocates put their energy?

Best,
AVAC
