Update from the All-trials Campaign
Posted on: April 4 2014, 09:15 am

Dear AllTrials supporters

Last night MEPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new law that will require all drug clinical trials in Europe to be registered and their results reported in a public database.

Your efforts and support have helped make this a win for the AllTrials campaign.

This new law comes into effect in 2016 and as Ben Goldacre, co-founder of the AllTrials campaign, said:

The new law does not address the far bigger problem, that we still don’t have full reporting for all trials on the medicines we are using right now, today, medicines which we will continue to use for the foreseeable future.

We need all trials – on all uses of all currently prescribed treatments – to be made available, and urgently. There is no excuse for industry inflicting ongoing harm on patients, and on their own reputation, by continuing to campaign against this position.

Read more reactions to this news on and help us by sharing it on Facebook and Twitter (using #AllTrials).

This vote is already having a ripple effect as we have just learned that drug maker AbbVie has dropped its lawsuit against the European Medicines Agency. They had sued the EMA in an effort to keep trial data confidential. As Ilaria Passarani of the EU consumer organization BEUC told us, “The time for secrecy is over.”

We still need your support to ensure that the studies that hundreds of thousands of people have participated in are registered and reported. We’re getting ready to launch a new website and campaign video focused on this. You can help us with a donation today.

Best wishes
