HIV Scotland: Basic HIV Facts Leaflet
Posted on: September 17 2014, 08:53 am

HIV Scotland are working on a basic HIV facts leaflet  The leaflet is aimed at people with little or no knowledge of HIV.  It is business card sized and an accordion pull out with 9 statements about HIV and corresponding images.  It will mostly get handed out at community fairs, etc.

We have a slide that reads "If a person with HIV is on effective treatment, it's highly unlikely they'll be infectious".

Local focus groups were mostly supportive although we have had lots of alternative suggestions for wording.  However, anxiety has also been expressed about it endorsing unsafe sex for people living with HIV regardless of viral load, adherence, resistance, etc.

Do you think that this is an acceptable statement to put on a basic HIV leaflet.  Or do you think that the idea of treatment as prevention is too complex to simplify into a basic statement?

Due to space limitations there is no room for caveats or further information, we are limited to 15 words a slide.

Your thoughts and opinions on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks.
