Improving Rehabilitation Services Programme for parent/carers of children
Posted on: January 12 2015, 12:58 pm

Are you the parent (or adult carer) of a child or young person receiving rehabilitation services?
If so, we'd like to hear from you! The Improving Rehabilitation Services Programme has recently been established at NHS England. As part of this programme, a project has been set up to scope children and young people's rehabilitation services and to establish if there is a case of need for work to improve rehabilitation services for children and young people.

For the purposes of this project rehabilitation has a broad definition, including physical and mental health, and impacting all ages through to early adulthood. This includes (but is not limited to) children and young people with conditions such as cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy, metabolic disorders, mental health conditions, arthritis, chronic pain, respiratory conditions, and any health condition that requires rehabilitation to support recovery of abilities after an event and/or ongoing development and independence.

To guide and inform this work we are holding stakeholder engagement sessions for parents and carers of children and young people who have received (or are receiving) rehabilitation services. We are hoping to invite parents and carers that represent a broad range of rehabilitation service needs.

At these events we will be seeking feedback on your priorities regarding rehabilitation, considering the 'bigger picture' for services across the country, and for children and young people with a range of rehabilitation needs. This information is central in both making a case for future developments and in targeting the activity of the rehabilitation programme.
