New report on EU healthcare access for poor, young, and pregant women
Posted on: May 26 2015, 10:17 am

Doctors of the World have recently published a new report which shows that across Europe, children, pregnant women and those living in poverty are bearing the brunt of increasingly exclusive healthcare systems.

The report brings together data from clinics across Doctors of the World network including their clinic in the UK and the findings support its continuing demands for access to care for all with a focus on pregnant women and children.

The chair of the Royal College of Midwives, Lesley Page was at the launch and commended the report, she said ‘this report shows that women often excluded from our society need compassion and care, not red tape and obstacles. The RCM endorses Doctors of the World’s position that clinicians must never be the gatekeepers of healthcare, or assume the role of immigration police. Midwives have a duty of care to women and their babies and they should be free to provide care to any woman who walks through their doors.’
