ACT-UP London Joyful Protest 15 June 6-8PM
Posted on: June 4 2015, 09:39 am

As many of you may have heard, it has been announced that UKIP will be marching in this year's London Pride Parade.  This is a group that published a special manifesto pledging to roll back LGBT equality - and whose leader, Nigel Farage, spread lies and fear about HIV+ migrants flooding the UK - which ACTUP has consistently campaigned against.

Whatever you feel about the Pride committee's decision, it is clear that other groups need to stand up for the true spirit of equality, solidarity and inclusion on which Gay Liberation was founded.

We at ACTUP are thrilled to be hosting a peaceful and joyful pre-Pride protest in support of HIV+ migrants called

ACTUP FOR LOVE
on Monday 15th June 6-8pm
in Trafalgar Square

commissioned by London Artists Projects
in association with The Glass Is Half Full
- unveiling our new banner by renowned artist Ed Hall.

Through the passage of time and like Britain itself, Trafalgar Square continues to be an international site for resistance, art and politics welcoming migrants from across the globe.

In a peaceful action paying tribute to the founders of the gay liberation movement and HIV activism, ACTUP London invites HIV+ and HIV- migrants, their friends, families, and allies to attend a joyful protest against Nigel Farage's isolationist, HIV-phobic rhetoric and Tory restrictions on healthcare access which will impact on HIV+ migrants.

Flanked by our own queen's guard, we invite members of the public to dress up or come as you are and photograph yourselves in front of the new ACT UP banner by Ed Hall and publish your photos on your own social media pages (using the hashtag #ACTUP4LOVE), bringing awareness to this injustice and to our work.

As ACTUP's Dan Glass puts it: "Farage spread lies throughout the General Election to scare people about HIV+ migrants flooding the health service.  Playing on similar fears, the Tories have put in place discriminatory health surcharges for migrants that turn NHS staff into border agents and scare vulnerable people from seeking medical attention.  Together, UKIP and the Conservatives are undermining British values, dismantling the NHS and contributing to rising HIV infection rates.  It's an honour to be on Trafalgar Square as part of the new generation of ACTUP.  Together we stand on the shoulders of giants, paying tribute to freedom pioneers such as the Gay Liberation Front and LGBT and HIV activists and migrants rights groups everywhere.  ACT UP!  FIGHT BACK!  FIGHT AIDS!"

Then come and march with the Banner in the ACTUP contingent at Pride on 27th June -
