The Spanish LGBT Activist Pedro Zerelo has died

Today the 9th of June 2015 the Spanish LGBT activist Pedro Zerelo has died at the age of 54 in Madrid, Spain.
The Spanish politician known for his important political advocacy in the area of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, died of pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where his father lived in exile from the Francoist government.
He studied law at the University of La Laguna on Tenerife.
Pedro provided legal assistance to the Federación Estatal de Gays y Lesbianas (National Federation of Gays and Lesbians). In 1998 he became president of that organisation, which is now known as the Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales (National Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals, FELGTB). He was re-elected in 2000 and 2002. In 2004 he joined the board of directors of the International Lesbian and Gay Association.
In 2001 and 2003 he participated in negotiations between opposition and the government deputies over five modifications to the Spanish Civil Code relating to same-sex marriage.
On October 1, 2005, Zerolo married Jesús Santos, his partner of ten years, in a civil ceremony.
A quote from the General Secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), Pedro Sanchez, who issued a statement Tuesday saying, “(Zerolo) taught us that all forms of diversity are a part of socialism.”
His passing sparked an outburst of responses from international and domestic figures.
