UK AIDS Memorial Quilt
Posted on: October 10 2016, 04:49 pm

Hi All

Were trying to reach anyone who was involved in creating the UKs AIDS Memorial Quilt.

The UKs AIDS Memorial Quilt is an irreplaceable piece of social history and remembrance of those who died of HIV and AIDS in the 80s and 90s. The quilt has been in storage for several years now and without proper conservation is in danger of deteriorating and being lost.

A number of charities have come forward to create the AIDS Memorial Quilt Conservation Partnership, to raise awareness of the quilt, its importance in our history and to restore and conserve the quilt for generations to come.

To raise public awareness of the quilt and gain support around its conservation we will be hosting a series of events in London around World AIDS Day.  The first will be installing the quilts in St Pauls Cathedral on 23 November.  Then over the weekend of 3 and 4 December, venues around London will host individual quilt panels.  Venues will include churches, HIV charities, libraries and the former Lighthouse, now Museum of Brands, where most of the panels were created.
Were trying to find people who were involved in making the quilt, who created panels to remember family and friends. We are hoping as many as possible will be able join us for the events, have the opportunity to see their quilts again and take part in remembering those we have lost.

If you were involved in making the quilts or you know of anyone who was, we would love to hear from you.  Please contact info@positivelyuk.org.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt Conservation Partnership are George House Trust, Positive East, Positively UK, The Food Chain, Sahir House and Terrence Higgins Trust.

We will also post up more information about the events shortly.

Best wishes

Allan
