This year the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) are celebrating the centenary of two landmark pieces of legislation from 1916 and 1917 that revolutionised sexual healthcare in the UK.

The Public Health (Venereal Diseases) Regulations of 1916 and the Venereal Disease Act of 1917 led to the establishment of sexual health clinics across the UK, as well as prohibiting the treatment of venereal diseases by unqualified people and the advertising of remedies.

This film tells the story of how sexual healthcare in the UK was born amidst the troubles of the First World War and how it has progressed over the past 100 years, from ground-breaking scientific discoveries of the 1920s and the trauma of the 1980s AIDs epidemic, right through to today, as we find bold new ways to fight sexually transmitted infections and HIV, always striving to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.
