Gathering case studies on pre-employment health questions
Posted on: September 26 2018, 12:36 pm

Dear UK-CAB members,

NAT want to gather case studies to be included in a report we are writing on the issue of pre-employment health questions.

Employers asking an applicant about their health during the recruitment process was made unlawful under the Equality Act 2010 (excluding Equal Opportunities Monitoring forms). The purpose of this law is to prevent disability or health information being used to discriminate against job applicants. However, we know that health questions are still being used by employers.

We would like to hear from people that have been asked about their HIV status or health more generally when applying for a job. For example, we would be interested to hear from those that:

-   Decided not to apply for a job because they were being asked about their health in an application process

-   Had to answer questions about their health when applying for a job (which maybe led them to disclosing health conditions they didnít want to or feeling uncomfortable)

-   Had to answer questions about their health when applying for a job which directly led to discrimination, confidentiality or other issues

All case studies would be anonymised. If you would be interested in sharing your experiences or would like to hear more about the project, please contact Chris on 020 7814 6758 or christopher.hicks@nat.org.uk

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks - this sounds like a good project.

Then i-Base phoneline still gets calls about this so I hope you get a good response.
