Ageing with HIV: The next challenge of the epidemic

Until recently, few could have imagined large numbers of older adults aging with HIV. Increasing access to effective antiretrovirals results in most people with HIV living longer with improved health. By 2015 half of all people with HIV in the US will be over age 50 and similar patterns are beginning to be seen in the UK and other industrialised countries.

This satellite will outline recent US and UK research alongside the global living experiences of older adults with HIV, providing insights into the emerging challenges of HIV and aging. What are the expressed concerns and needs of older adults with HIV? How can people aging with HIV be best supported to live well in the face of future health, financial and social uncertainties?

Speakers: Lisa Power (THT, UK), Dr Stephen Karpaik, (ACRIA USA)
